Description
What makes a great photograph?
In this 3 day hands-on workshop, students will focus on creating powerful images that stand out. Each day class will meet at Wilton High School for a 30 minute session and then head outside (weather permitting) to put into practice what was discussed in class. Students will work on enhancing their creative vision through the use of composition, depth of field, motion and more. Any camera (including a cell phone) is welcome.
Part 1 (1.5 hours)
Students will meet at Wilton High School classroom for a 30 minutes session and Fredda Gordon will discuss the ISO and Aperture manual settings on SLR and DSLR cameras. The students will then drive over to meet at Merwin Meadows to shoot for 1 hour, practicing adjusting their aperture and learning to edit the frame while shooting. We will explore techniques for capturing not just the visual elements of a subject but also your emotional reactions to it. Fredda will work one-on-one with students throughout the shoot.
Part 2 (1.5 hours)
On day 2, the class will start in the classroom and Fredda will teach the Speed setting and how it works with Aperture and ISO. Students will then go outside to shoot for 1 hour, practicing adjusting their speed, connecting it with the Aperture and ISO settings and get creative control over their images.
Part 3 (1.5 hours)
On day three, the class will reconvene in the classroom. Students will bring a specified number of images downloaded to a drive to share with the class. Students will download images and the class will view the images on a large screen. Fredda will do minor editing and discuss best editing practices, what worked best and what other approaches or techniques might have been used to change or make the image more impactful. Each person's best images will be compiled into a slideshow to be shared with the class.
